Preparing for your procedure can feel exhausting and overwhelming. But don’t worry – our team has put together an essentials checklist to make things easier for both day procedures and overnight stays. We’ve got you covered!

Day Procedure Checklist

For surgeries where you’ll be home the same day:

  • Medicare card and/or private health insurance details.
  • Photo ID.
  • Payment methods (if needed for upfront costs).
  • Loose, comfortable clothes for after surgery.
  • Slip-on shoes or sandals (easy to wear without bending).
  • Tops or tracksuits that button or zip at the front allow ease of taking clothing on and off.
  • A list of your current medications.
  • Any prescribed pre-surgery medications.
  • Water bottle.
  • Lip balm (for dry lips post-anaesthesia).
  • Confirm a family member or friend to drive you home and stay with you overnight.

Overnight Procedure Checklist

For surgeries requiring a hospital stay:

  • Medicare card and/or private health insurance details.
  • Photo ID.
    Any paperwork from your surgeon or hospital.
  • Payment methods (if needed for upfront costs).
  • Loose, comfortable clothes for after surgery.
  • Slip-on shoes or sandals (easy to wear without bending).
  • Tops or tracksuits that button or zip at the front allow ease of taking clothing on and off.
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, and travel-sized toiletries.
  • Hairbrush or comb.
  • Deodorant and lip balm.
  • A list of current medications and any prescribed for post-surgery care.
  • All medications in their original packaging.
  • Earplugs or noise-canceling headphones.
  • Books, magazines, or a tablet with downloaded shows.
  • Phone and charger (preferably a portable one).
  • Non-perishable snacks.
  • Water bottle.
  • Glasses or contact lenses with a case.
  • Small pillow for additional support (optional).
